Didactics

Every Thursday afternoon is blocked for didactic/seminar/learning time. There are several components of education which occur during these time slots throughout the year.

Summer Seminar: July & August

Fellows participate in a didactic series which serves as an introduction to major concepts surrounding common substances of use: Cannabis, Stimulants, Alcohol, Tobacco, and Opioids. Participants include addiction psychiatry, addiction medicine, psychosomatic medicine fellows to promote interdisciplinary learning and collaboration.

September – Motivational Interviewing Intensive Seminar

For three full days, fellows will participate in an intensive seminar dedicated to learning and practicing the foundations of motivational interviewing. Led by Sara Leyde, MD, https://gim.uw.edu/people/faculty/sarah-leyde faculty in addiction medicine at Harborview Medical Center, this seminar includes trainees from addiction medicine, psychology, social work and is intended to help fellows obtain a strong foundation in the principals of MI which they will use the remainder of the year.

September-June

Center of Excellence in Substance Addiction Treatment and Education (CESATE) Seminar:

Fellows participate with multidisciplinary post-graduate fellows (addiction medicine, psychology, social work, nursing, and chaplain) in weekly seminars. The Seminar Series is organized by and led by faculty member Carl Kantner, PhD.
